Series 1. Episode 1.
Welcome to the first podcast of ‘The Articulate CEO’, a series that focuses on how leaders can benefit from effective verbal communication.
In this series, we look at what it means to be an effective communicator.
In using verbal communication, the aim is to get people to understand and agree with you, and to care enough to take action. Be yourself. It is not a weakness to show human emotion; in fact, not showing emotion exposes you to criticism and negative judgement.
In this episode we challenge the widely held notions about speaking to stakeholders, including discussion of:
- the disengaged workforce;
- iconic speeches and speakers e.g. Barack Obama and Martin Luther King;
- the three channels of communication;
- the prevalence of acting skills and why it doesn't work
